To honor the service and sacrifices of Americans who served in the armed forces, Walgreens is offering a 20% discount to all Veterans, active duty military personnel and their immediate family members, including the families of those who lost their lives in service to our country.

“We at Walgreens are always proud to be of service to those who serve our country, including Veterans, military personnel and their families,” said Richard Ashworth, president of operations, Walgreens.

July 4-7, 2019, customers with a Walgreens Balance® Rewards card and valid military ID or proof of service will receive 20 percent off regular price eligible store items* at any Walgreens or Duane Reade drugstores nationwide. A Balance® Rewards customer loyalty program membership is free and can be obtained at checkout.

Also in support of Veterans, Walgreens recently announced a commitment to hire 5,000 Veterans over the course of five years though their Helping Veterans with Educational and Retail Opportunities Program (HERO). Walgreens established the HERO program for Veterans to transition the leadership skills learned through military service into a retail management career such as assistant store manager trainee and shift lead. I tried to get a discount at the Northville, NY Walgreens and they said there was no such deal?

  2. Robert Ahles

Walgreens over-the- counter medications are generally double that of other pharmacies near me. A 20% discount still leaves most of Walgreens products over priced when compared to competitors. You can find better savings elsewhere.

Take it from me or not.
Walgreens does not care for Vets or anybody else. It is just another organization solely comitted to the purpose of building wealth and expanding their footprint while stepping on the backs of the sick, old, poor and lastly but not least, our vets, especially low income vets. Business is cut throat but it shouldn’t cross the lines of good ethics, moral values, with common sense and compassion for the sick and especially our war time heroes. Walgreens jacks up their prices way beyond the 20% so you think you are saving , but instead you are being compelled to buy or spend more in the long run. Besides, the offer is on a limited number of items. You will also have to purchase the $20 Walgreens savings card.
They will give a tough time to people filling medicines. Usually you have to fill more than two other type of medicines to get one controlled prescription. To be a customer they will try to pitch the walgreens savings card for $20 extra. More over, you have to request the Walgreens pharmacists in person to add you to their customer list to fill your medicines, that’s only of course if they are not making their quota. And if you don’t fit their very strict ‘profiling’ criteria you’re good to go, or they will profile you and discriminate against you from getting your prescriptions filled. Even if you pass the profiling and are a member they could delay in giving you your medicines upto three days late or more, and then they can even fill it for someone else and have you waiting longer. Else they will tell you to beat it and go elsewhere. Even if you are a ‘member’ cash will work most of the time to get medicines as opposed to insurance, discount cards, etc. Even if you are a caucasian with blonde hair, they will discriminate for having a hispanic last name. They will discourage young people from getting certain medicines, alright, but even if they have terminal cancer at a young age? Anyways, they will almost always fill Morphine.
Walgreens is sneaky, undermining and has one of the worst money grabbing practices that’s what this organization is.

  8. Donald Fluet

It is time that all retailers who have a Veterans discount stop putting special requirements in place. Lowes Honors all Vets without special requirements. Thank You Lowes

How do you contact the director of the VA

  10. William A Morris

As a Vietnam veteran, I sincerely appreciate Walgreens special 20% offer. It is very nice of management to adopt this policy.
There is less than 3% of the American population to ever serve. Thank you Walgreens. Bud Morris.

  11. Bonnie Rohn

I was the Senior Technician in the Walgreen’s Pharmacy in Fort Morgan, Colorado since the day it opened in 2006.
Due to an illness that left me unable to work for 3 to months (West Nile), I had to quit.
I now live in Burlington, Colorado where a Walgreens would be nice to have built.
    What’s your thoughts?
I’m ready to go back to work in the pharmacy!

  12. Charles Butts

Thank you so much for your generous discount. I appreciate just the thoughtfulness put forth by your fine company.

  13. Elvis Ramos

Walgreens will not take champ VA. I had to wait for my wife’s meds the next day after a visit to the ER. I will not be recommending this franchise to any veteran. They made thing’s worse for me and my wife emergency. OUT with Walgreens VETS. DONT GO THERE. BOICUT THEM. Thanks vets.

    1. Peter Ondrasek

Sorry just be cause you had a bad experience at one does not mean you should criticize all. That’s like saying the veterans who served 20 years deserve more perks than ones that served 2, 3, 4, years.

    2. Jay James

So you had to wait a little time for a prescription and you want all veterans to boycott Walgreens for that one incident? YGBSM.. Walgreens has been pro veteran since they started in business. Get a grip and appreciate what you have… geesh…

  14. Chuck Porter

Thank you for supporting fellow veterans!!

Elvis,a bit of care there! I left a comment which pointed out that the “20% discount” for four-days was nothing of the kind because a “Balance® Rewards card” must be taken-out if the discount is to be received. What do you need to take out the card? At the least, personal information that can be sold by the holder. Junk mail, junk email, and pesky telephone solicitors could be as thick as mosquitoes. The literary censor(s) cut my comment as this comment will be cut. It’s a pity.
I hope that my brothers read between the lines.

  15. paul schwarz

Thanks to walgreens for acknowledging us.
The article, “Veterans and military families receive Walgreens discount on July 4-7” is not correct. The fine print informs:
“July 4-7, 2019, customers with a Walgreens Balance® Rewards card and valid military ID or proof of service will receive….”

Technically, there is a price to be paid for receiving a 20% discount for four out of 365 days times years remaining while walgreens may sell whatever information is gathered in creating a Balance® Rewards card. Dislike junk mail? Dislike telephone solicitors calling your home during dinner?

  16. Kevin M. Hutchinson

As a retired veteran of 30 years active federal service I want to thank the Walgreen’s corporation and it’s employees for recognizing the soldiers of the Armed Forces here and abroad for all you do for us worldwide. Again, thanks for your support.

  17. Walter Kekel

It is nice to see Walgreens honoring veterans. Being a vet myself I appreciate your recognition. I shop at Walgreens and have your card.

  18. Michael Carmody

    Typical of the VA.
Read the discount details and they specify ” must have the walgreens reward card AND valid military id. The VA email says “OR”.

    1. Keith Hensley

The email I received from the VA definitely says AND. It also says that if you don’t have a rewards card, you can get a me at the register. THANK YOU WALGREENS AND VA!!!

      1. Keith Hensley

        That’s get one…darn autocorrect!

  19. Jeff Smethers

20% off of 200% marked up merchandise is hardly helpful

  20. Jim Wingate

Thank you for your support of veterans!
