In September 2017, VA began updating the VA Schedule for Rating Disabilities, the federal regulations used by claims processors to determine the severity of disabilities related to military service and decide claims. VA is completely updating this group of federal regulations commonly referred to as the “VASRD” or “rating schedule” for the first time since 1945.

On May 13, the new rating schedule for gynecological conditions and disorders of the breast and  eye conditions is effective. The rating schedules for dental and oral conditions and conditions related to the endocrine system were updated in 2017. VA will continue updating the remainder of the VASRD affecting 15 total body systems over the next several months.

No conditions were removed from the new rating schedules for gynecological conditions and disorders of the breast and for eye conditions. However, several new diagnostic codes were added and others were re-titled, restructured or updated.

One notable update includes the addition of Female Sexual Arousal Disorder (FSAD) to the rating schedule for gynecological conditions and disorders of the breast. Currently, male Veterans with certain penile conditions are eligible for disability compensation if a condition is considered related to military service. They are also eligible for an additional monthly benefit under Special Monthly Compensation. However, there was no rating option for similarly disabling conditions affecting women Veterans. The new rating schedule guarantees both men and women Veterans are evaluated equally. VA is proud that this rating guidance now reflects both modern medicine and a better understanding of physical conditions affecting women Veterans.

Under the new rating schedule for eye conditions, the general rating formula for diseases of the eye includes a new definition of incapacitating episodes related to eye disease and three new diagnostic codes.

VA remains committed to continuously improving our service to Veterans and staying at the forefront of modern medicine.

Why is it that there is a 0% rating for FSAD?!! This is due to the stupid psychologists and psychiatrists The military employed when they had no clue how to treat PTSD except load us up on about 13 damn different medications to make us worse. These idiotic doctors along with the VA idiots have destroyed our lives, not made us better.

It is interesting that they take such great pride in having added FSAD, but fail to mention that it is 0 rated….why add it at all then? Same with the ED…lame. We are supposed to stand up and applaud your recognition of a disorder you will not compensate for. Hmmm :/

    To Jamie Miller
Yes, because in a lot of cases, some idiots who evaluate the Male reproductive system only consider ED as not having a hard on!!!
So If you have nerve damage, its rated 0
If you have damage to the cords around the testicle that restricts blood but is PAINFUL its rated 0
If your Vas Defer is damaged, but you have blood flow and sterility issue your rated 0
If the nerves in the shaft of penis are damaged (causing painful erections, its not a ED issue) your rated 0
Then they look at you Puzzeled and say your 0 rating is adequate because you do not meet ED (a unhealthy erection)
Short of having it cut off from shrapnel you then only could get SMC and have to suck it up because a dysfunction is looked at only one way.The Morons..

As long as top echelon VA staff are awarded bonuses for saving the government money, veterans will never see the benefits they deserve. Why isn’t their paycheck enough!

Call 800-827-1000 and ask them to resend it to you. I’ve been waiting since April 18th for a rating letter and finally called to have them resend it.

You can find it at eBenefits.va.gov under Manage>Documents and Records>VA Letters. The website isn’t the best, and the log-in procedure is downright criminal in its user unfriendliness, but it has links to all kinds of information from the VA and DOD.

If your breast was was wrongly diagnosed and you had to go out side the V.A because the military mess it up. Will we be able to have our benefits raised up.

  12. Susan Malec May 15, 2018 at 13:42

Does this mean that ratings already assigned may be changed?
