St. Louis, MO is part of the VA Heartland Network (VISN 15) and is home to two VA Medical Centers, among other VA facilities. The John Cochran Division houses operative surgical capabilities, the ambulatory care unit, intensive care units, outpatient psychiatry clinics, and expanded laboratory. The Jefferson Barracks Division provides psychiatric treatment, spinal cord injury treatment, a nursing home care unit, geriatric health care, rehabilitation services, and a rehabilitation domiciliary program for homeless Veterans. Both divisions are great places to work and pursue a career, and not just because of their own excellence. And as you might imagine, the opportunities for health care professionals here are as varied as the services we provide.

The city of St. Louis has a ton to offer everyone. Here are five good reasons to think about relocating:

Low cost of living

One of the biggest concerns when moving to a new city is the cost of living and housing availability. For both of those, look no farther than St. Louis. The city is one of the most affordable places to live in the country, even if you are looking for a house or apartment within the city.

Gorgeous and historic downtown

Not only is living here inexpensive, the neighborhoods in the city are beautiful. The apartment buildings maintain their classic architecture and are mixed in with beautiful 20th century-style mansions. The downtown area also features plenty of historic buildings that give this city on the river a unique feel.

Free access to zoos and museums

As one of the biggest zoos in the country, the St. Louis Zoo is already a fun addition to a great city. The fact that it is free makes it even better. The St. Louis Art Museum, history museum and the Science Center are all also free, making a fun time in the city affordable no matter what your interests are.

St. Louis Cardinals

Of course, you can’t talk about St. Louis without mentioning the legendary Cardinals. One of the best franchises in Major League Baseball calls this city home, and Busch Stadium is regarded as one of the best arenas in sports. You can watch the game inside or at one of the many sports bars near the stadium and enjoy the wonderful, baseball-town atmosphere.

The Arch

The St. Louis Gateway Arch is what this city is probably best-known for. Built in the 1960s to commemorate all the explorers and pioneers who started their westward journey in the city, it is the tallest monument in the U.S. Seeing it from the ground is great but you can also ride to the top and get a great view of the entire city.

There may be as many reasons to come to St. Louis as there are opportunities to pursue your career there with VHA. Take this opportunity to explore all of them and Join VA.
