Navy Veteran Robert Shumaker served during the Vietnam War. He was captured by North Vietnamese forces and held as a prisoner of war for eight years.

Cmdr. Ernest E. Evans captained the USS Johnston which sank during the Battle of Leyte Gulf. For his actions, he was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor.

Prior to his passing in 2017, World War II Veteran John Cornelius was recognized by VA for his donations that continue to be raised in his honor. Raised more than $200,000 for Veteran patients.

Charles “Chuck” Adkins had retired from active duty Army in 2001 but was recalled when his skills as an army logistician were needed. After serving in Operation Iraqi Freedom and suffering a Mild Traumatic Brain Injury (MTBI), Adkins became an advocate for Veterans who did not receive Purple Hearts. He later joined the organization, Military Order of the Purple Heart.

Today’s #VeteranOfTheDay is Army Veteran Vale Harless, who served with the 10th Mountain Division in Europe during World War II.

Daniel K. Inouye served during World War II in the 442nd Regimental Combat Team. During an attack on a German ridge in San Terenzo, Italy, Inouye was badly injured and lost his right arm to a rifle grenade attack. He later received the Medal of Honor for his actions in Italy. After the war, he became a lawyer and was active in Hawaiian politics. He became Hawaii’s first representative to the House and then a U.S. senator.

Today’s #VeteranOfTheDay is Army Air Corps Veteran Kenneth Joseph McBride, who served during World War II from 1941 to 1945.

Today’s #VeteranOfTheDay is Navy Veteran Tuan Anh Nguyen who served 29 years and received a Bronze Star Medal during a deployment to Afghanistan.

Today’s #VeteranOfTheDay is Navy Veteran David A. Fegyo, a Navy SEAL with SEAL Team 10 and DEVGRU who deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan.

Today’s #VeteranOfTheDay is Army Veteran Maurice Spivak, who served during World War II and earned the Bronze Star for his actions in Europe.
