Army Veteran Gabriel D. Conde is today's Veteran of the Day.

Today’s #VeteranOfTheDay is Army Veteran Gabriel D. Conde, who was killed in action on April 30, 2018, and interred at Fort Logan National Cemetery.

Gabe D. Conde attended Berthoud High School and the Colorado School of Mines. During high school, he went on three mission trips with Grace Place Church to Madera, a small town in Mexico.

Conde enlisted in the Army in 2015. He served with 3rd Battalion, 509th Infantry Regiment, 4th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division, at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, Alaska. He deployed with the brigade to Afghanistan to support Operation Freedom’s Sentinel in September 2017.

Conde died during a firefight on April 30, 2018, in the Tagab district. He was 22 years old.

His awards include a Purple Heart, a National Defense Service Medal, an Army Service Ribbon, and a Parachutist Badge.

In 2019, the Larimer County Department of Natural Resources organized a Memorial Day collection drive in honor of Conde. They collected over 200 pounds of hygiene items for active service members stationed overseas.

Conde was interred at Fort Logan National Cemetery near Denver.

To honor his sacrifice, the Veterans of Foreign Wars post in Berthoud, Colorado, bares his name.

We honor his service.

As it did last year, this year National Cemetery Administration is collaborating with Carry The Load for Memorial Day to honor fallen Veterans. Both NCA and Carry The Load are honoring select “Veterans of the Day” with remembrances on social media during May.
