#VeteranOfTheDay Air Force Veteran Christy Myers

Air Force Veteran Christy Myers is today's Veteran of the Day.

Today’s #VeteranOfTheDay is Air Force Veteran Christy Myers, who served as a services apprentice at Langley Air Force Base from 1994 to 1998.

Christy Myers served in the Air Force from June 17, 1994, to June 17, 1998, as a services apprentice. She was a part of the 1st Services Squadron at Langley Air Force Base in Hampton, Virginia.

Myers’ father served in the Navy, which inspired her to follow in his footsteps and enlist. She joined the Air Force fresh out of high school and spent her 18th birthday during boot camp. Myers was also motivated to enlist for a 90-day mission in Jordan out of her love of traveling and fondly recalls her time.

She held various positions during her time in service. First, she worked in the flight kitchen and was in charge of serving meals to the members on the flight lines and to those traveling in and out the base. Next, Myers worked at the community activity center, a place where members came for relaxation and entertainment. She was in charge of planning trips for members’ families so they could enjoy affordable entertainment while their loved ones deployed. Lastly, Myers worked in the main dining hall as a shift leader in charge. She ensured the staff delivered meals on time and the food met Air Force standards.

During her service, Myers had two children and two more after her service ended. Myers moved to Florida to support her husband during his service at Tyndall Air Force Base. Soon after, they moved to Virginia Beach, where she began working at Geico. Myers was able to attend Vocational Rehab for her disability, which allowed her to go back to school.

Myers is currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in social work and will be graduating in December 2020, to fulfill her dream of becoming a social worker. She says the discipline and diversity she experienced during her service have prepared her for her new career.

Thank you for your service!
