Army Veteran Nekohl Mace is today's Veteran of the Day.

Today’s #VeteranOfTheDay is Army Veteran Nekohl Mace, who served in the Army Reserve between 1989-1997 as a medical laboratory specialist.

After joining the Army Reserves in 1989, Nekohl Mace completed basic training at Fort Dix in New Jersey. After, she graduated from the medical laboratory specialist program at the Army’s Academy of Health and Sciences.

Mace then served on various assignments around the world. In the United States, Mace toured and worked in labs at Fort Carson in Colorado, El Paso in Texas, Fort McCoy in Wisconsin and Fort Meade in Maryland. She also deployed to Germany, and Saudi Arabia in support of Operation Desert Shield.

Mace honorably discharged in 1997. In 2014, she completed her graduate degree in business administration from Olivet Business School.

During her service and subsequent career, she developed a passion for leadership and team building.

Mace now serves as the Illinois State Council Global Missions Chair, teaching Sunday school, providing training and hosting events and seminars. She currently works as the assistant director of clinical support services operations for the pathology department at the University of Illinois Hospital and Health Sciences. Mace is also an adjunct professor in the health sciences department at South Suburban College.

She is a proud member of Veteran of Foreign Wars Post 2024, Charles J. Blackwood American Legion Post 800 and the National Association for Black Veterans.
