Doctor evaluates Veteran for GERD.

Dr. Kerry B. Dunbar, AGAF, FASGE, section chief for VA North Texas Gastroenterology, evaluates Navy Veteran Roger Martin’s esophagus using an endoscope to determine the appropriate treatment for Martin’s throat discomfort. As Dunbar performs the procedure, Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist Allison Insley stabilizes Martin’s head and keeps a weathered eye on his vitals as Dr. Taylor Serousseau, a Fellow resident watches and learns. Dr. Dunbar was recently honored as part of a team, under the VA Cooperative Studies Program, to have a paper published in the New England Journal of Medicine having to do with the evaluation and treatment of Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). GERD is a digestive disorder that affects the ring of muscle between the esophagus and stomach. Many people, including pregnant women, suffer from heartburn or acid indigestion caused by GERD. Boy Scouts, James (Troop 800/Aberdeen) and Thomas (Troop 7/Pinehurst), visited Fayetteville #VAMC. They set up a cart with treat bags and drinks to greet our #Veterans and staff. They offered everyone refreshments and thanked them for their #service. Our Veterans and staff loved it. What a fantastic, thoughtful gesture. Thank you, James and Thomas.
