Max Michael Seidemann was born in Germany but fled to the United States at the age of 12 during the Nazi regime. While attending graduate school in New York, the Army drafted Seidemann and deployed him to Korea with the IX Corps. The IX Corps later took charge of the western flank of the Pusan perimeter, defending the Naktong River area against attacking North Korean People‚Äôs Army (KPA) units. On Sept. 15, 1950, the IX and X Corps forced the KPA northward past Seoul during the Battle of Inchon.
