On Sept 10, VA exceeded its goal, three weeks ahead of schedule, to deliver 90,050 appeals decisions regarding disability benefits and services to Veterans in fiscal year 2019. This is approximately 9,000 more decisions than the previous year.
The Board also hit a record by providing more than 21,000 hearings in FY 2019, which is 5,000 more hearings than last year.
“The Board of Veterans’ Appeals (Board) provided thousands of Veterans with critical, life-changing appellate decisions,” said VA Secretary Robert Wilkie. “The Board surpassed its goal for delivering results to Veterans and their families for the second year in a row. This reflects VA’s continued commitment to providing excellent customer service to Veterans. VA is committed to reducing the backlog of legacy appeals and ensuring that Veterans receive the benefits they deserve.”
This achievement in surpassing last year’s number of decisions comes while VA concurrently implemented the Veterans Appeals Improvement and Modernization Act of 2017. The act offers Veterans choice and control over their appeals, and provides for a more timely and transparent process.
To aid in achieving this historic goal, the Board focused on hiring attorneys and judges, reorganized its structure, instituted various training and implemented modern technology changes. Utilizing modern technologies is one way the Board continues to adapt to the changing needs of the Veteran population.

I was declared permanently unemployable and filed for IU and I was denied the first go around not knowing that I had to quit Vocational Rehab. Once I got my letter from Voc Rehab and appealed the initial decision, I was told 125 days and I would have my decision. It has been 207 days now and still nothing. Granted, when I called them about it they told me it changed to 263 days but still. I am a family of 6 living on just my VA disability at the moment which is VERY stressful. I was just approved for SSDI, but I don’t know when I will get that either. Regardless of all of this, the appeals process is still more lengthy than it needs to be.
I guess I’m not one of the 90,000 bc I am still waiting. Ridiculous

I have been waiting for 7 years for my appeal. Then they told me it went to be reviewed by the judge in December of 2018 and should take 2 months, I still have not heard anything.
Of the 90,000 Appeals how many denied unless you are POST 911 veteran.
