All Veterans have earned and deserve a place to call home. That’s why VA is committed to preventing and ending homelessness among Veterans. VA and Vietnam Veterans of America (VVA) recently shared information about resources and programs to help Veterans who are homeless or at risk of homelessness during a joint #ExploreVA Facebook Live event.

Sharon Hodge, VVA deputy director of Government Affairs and Anthony Love, senior advisor and director of Community Engagement for VHA’s Office of Homeless Programs, discussed several resources for Veterans who lack stable housing.

“If there’s a local VA medical center in the community where you are, I would recommend getting connected,” Love said. For those unable to visit a VA medical center, the National Call Center for Homeless Veterans’ 24/7 hotline at 1-877-4AID-VET (1-877-424-3838) is an excellent first place to start. Operators can pinpoint nearby resources, such as emergency or transitional shelters.

Every VA medical center has a homeless coordinator to help Veterans access VA programs, such as HUD-VASH or the Homeless Providers Grant and Per Diem program, to find and sustain permanent housing. In addition, coordinators can assist Veterans in navigating other services such as employment.

VA representatives responded to questions following the conversation and Veterans were directed to va.gov/homeless to learn more about housing assistance. Online representatives also provided helpful links to resources.

    THE VA HAD BETTER STEP UP THEIR EFFORTS IN FINDING HOUSING FOR HOMELESS VETERANS BEFORE THINGS BECOME TOTALLY OUT OF CONTROL. HERE IN PALM BEACH COUNTY FLORIDA, THINGS ARE VERY BAD. MANY HOMELESS VETERANS ARE SLEEPING ON THE STREETS MAINLY BECAUSE THE WEST PALM BEACH VAMC IS IGNORING THE PROBLEM THUS DOING NOTHING POSITIVE TO PROVIDE HOMELESS VETERANS AT LEAST SOME SHELTER.

    Who is receiving hud-vash in my case management team allowed me to get evicted and I owe money now and have an eviction on my record they did nothing to help me all they did was abandon me and let me be homeless and I’m still homeless this program actually put me worse off. I’ve talked to and continue to communicate with the VA Office of the Inspector General, to regional HUD offices, and others, because the HUD people falsified some of my paperwork and cause me to be evicted. My case workers did nothing to help me nor did they help me find any transitional housing Lord help me move all my stuff when I was evicted I lost a lot of- almost all my belongings of which there were some very sentimental items /heirlooms, is that your supervisor even made me apologize to them for being upset with them about the whole situation when I was upset that’s a new thing but I was in a state of losing my house and I was going to be homeless and yet they were having me kiss her behind well she did nothing to help me and I never heard back from my people again. They also lied all over my reports in my file, as well. I’m an honorably discharged veteran on my exit from tour of duty I have Army achievement medal Army Commendation medal and the global war on terrorism badge and I never had a negative mark or counseling statement the whole 5 years I dedicate my time to the US Army.

    Separate or divorce and suffer from PTSD MST and your compassion take the engine light this occurs or anybody in assistance to help us at all.
