Today’s #VeteranOfTheDay is Navy Veteran Timothy Cormier. Timothy served from 1980 to 2017.
Timothy was born in 1963 in Lafayette, Louisiana. He enlisted in the Navy in 1980 and completed basic training in San Diego, California. He then attended training at the Fleet Readiness Aviation Maintenance Program. Upon completion of his training, he was assigned to Fighter Squadron 114 (VF-114) based out of Naval Air Station Miramar, California. Timothy deployed on the USS America (CV-66) and the USS Enterprise (CVN-65).
In 1984, Timothy transferred to the Naval Reserve and attended the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. During his time in the Naval Reserves, Timothy earned the rating of Master-At-Arms. Timothy worked as a police officer with the Lafayette Police Department until September 11, 2011. On that day, Timothy was immediately called to active duty under the Presidential Recall.
Timothy was assigned to numerous overseas assignments to include Bahrain, United Arab Emirates, Puerto Rico, Greece, Italy, and Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, where he conducted detainee operations in support of the Global War on Terrorism. He also served in Louisiana, Mississippi, California, Florida, and Virginia.
Timothy was awarded eight Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medals, three Global War on Terrorism Service Medals, two NATO Service Medals, two Humanitarian Service Medals, and four Good Conduct Medals.
Timothy retired from the Navy in 2017 after 37 years of combined active-duty and reserve service. He currently resides in New Orleans, Louisiana where he enjoys fishing.
