The U.S. World War I Centennial Commission and National History Day have created “Who They Were,” an activity geared toward engaging young people in exploring and sharing stories of their local World War I generation. This event is an effort to remember the men and women from their communities who served the country 100 years ago.

Individuals or groups can use the Activity Toolkit, provided at the link below, to create short presentations about their community’s WWI generation. The information can then be presented as a narrative speech at a WWI event at their school or in their community.

Participants can also share their work online on the “Who They Were” map, where they can also see what other classes and groups from around the country have discovered.

This program is being launched in celebration of the WWI Armistice Centennial efforts, sponsored by the U.S. World War I Centennial Commission. The culmination of this event will occur on Veterans Day, Nov. 11, of this year and into 2019, but the Toolkit will be available indefinitely.

Please explore, share and circulate and help us engage students in exploring and sharing the story of our WWI generation.
