Today’s #VeteranOfTheDay is Army Veteran Sam Marchiafava. Sam served from 1968 to 1970 during the Vietnam War and spent several more years in the active reserves.

Sam was drafted into the Army in 1968 and completed basic training at Fort Polk, Louisiana. He served with the 25th division, 2nd of 27th Infantry in the Vietnam War from 1968 before he was assigned to Fort Carson, Colorado. Sam was discharged in 1970 and assigned to the active reserves from 1970 to 1974. He earned the Combat Infantryman Badge during his service.

After leaving the military in June 1970, Sam began working at the Baton Rouge Water Company as a supervisor. He retired in August 2013 and recently helped distribute over 600 flags to his subdivision to support Veterans. Sam enjoys spending his retirement with his family and friends, including his grandson Jett and his dog Rosie.

Thank you for your service, Sam!
