Today’s #VeteranOfTheDay is National Guard and Air Force Veteran Gregory Settles. Gregory served from 1969 to 2011 and achieved the rank of Chief Warrant Officer 4.

Gregory was drafted to the Air Force in September 1969 as a Refrigerator and Air Conditioning Specialist and earned the Missile Master Technician Award. He transitioned to the Arkansas National Guard in March 1978 and was assigned to the Camp Robinson training site as a Utilities Repair Mechanic. He was hired to work full-time as an Electric Mechanic for the 212th Signal. Gregory became the supervisor at CSMS Electronics Shop and Database Administrator until he retired in 2004 after 35 years of service.

Gregory joined the Active Guard Reserve program in August 2004 as Network Management Technician/COMSEC Custodian for HHC 212th Signal Battalion and held this position for two years. In 2006,  he was transferred to C Co., 39th BSBT as their Unit Administrator and was subsequently assigned to be the Tactical network Technician  and COMSEC custodian of their unit’s newly formed Signal Company. Gregory served with them for eight years including a deployment to Victory Base Camp, Iraq, where he was instrumental in establishing the Brigade’s COMSEC account.

Gregory has served as the Deacon in McAlmont Church of Christ since 1982 and has assisted with various programs in the church. He attended the University of Arkansas in Little Rock and Arkansas College of Technology graduating with an Associate’s Degree. Gregory and his wife currently reside in Arkansas and have been married for 47 years. They have two sons, one whom served for 17 years in the Army and is a Registered Nurse at the VA Medical Center in Little Rock, and another who is a Business Analyst in Georgia. He also has three. His eldest granddaughter is currently serving in the Army as a Nurse and his middle granddaughter is serving in the Army as a Chaplain’s Assistant.
