By front-ending and synchronizing surgical scheduling, this web-based application enhances the patient experience, from consultation through surgery. It’s all part of VA’s commitment to innovation that makes a difference in Veterans’ lives.
With PeriOp Planner, our employees can track patients, remind them to complete labs or consults prior to surgery, and determine if anticipated appointment dates need to be changed. This helps reduce last-minute delays and cancellations and ensure patients are prepared for surgery. The application also enables staff members to easily view and search patients’ preoperative work plans to assist with case forecasting, filling surgical blocks and identifying potential cancellations.
Capabilities such as these are essential to optimizing perioperative workflow and the use of operating rooms and other surgical resources. And doing so helps us achieve our surgical capacity and planning goals, improving Veterans’ access to our services.
