#VeteranOfTheDay is Army Veteran Richard Keirn


Today’s #VeteranOfTheDay is Army Veteran Richard Keirn. Richard served during the Vietnam War.

Richard joined the Army at age 17. Eventually, he worked his way up to Sergeant in the Army Corps of Engineers. From 1971 to 1972, Richard served in Chi Lang, Chou Doc Province, South Vietnam, as an advisor with the Royal New Zealand Army, under the Free World Forces.

Richard was awarded with a Bronze Star and Purple Heart. He was also awarded the Royal New Zealand Engineer Badge.

Natalie Himmel

Natalie Himmel is a senior at University of Iowa, majoring in English and International Studies with a focus on Global Resources and the Environment. She has published work for Iowa United Nations Association and Huffington Post. She currently serves as an Honors Writing Fellow for University of Iowa, the Vice President of UI’s European Horizon’s Chapter, and writes environmentally-focused content for Odyssey. She is also a Social Media Intern for the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.
