Most people know that USAJOBS.gov is the careers portal to learn about and apply for federal government positions all over the world. As you can imagine, it can be a very busy place. All positions, including ours at VA, can be found by conducting simple or advanced searches by occupation, location and other keywords. Typically, there are thousands of open positions listed at any given time. VA Careers also has a presence on the events calendar located here.

GoArmy.com allows the user that is only interested in Army opportunities to find information in a more convenient way. Likewise, VA recruits and hires over 40,000 full-time employees annually, most of whom are healthcare-oriented. Positions are posted nationwide at http://www.vacareers.va.gov/.

Most healthcare providers are not actively seeking new jobs. That’s why it’s important to remind this audience on an ongoing basis that VA desires people with their skills. Because VA is a highly sought-out employer, offering outstanding benefits, we have little difficulty filling most of the non-healthcare positions. Whenever possible, we hire Veterans, but since most Veterans don’t have a healthcare degree or healthcare experience, many of our healthcare provider hires are non-Veterans. Over 80% of those hires have trained at VA while pursuing their education.

In order to bring awareness to quality healthcare providers, VA Careers conducts a strategic integrated recruitment marketing plan that includes nationwide TV ads, PSAs, online digital communications, job boards, events, emails and many other tactics in order to reach them. Veterans Health Administration is the largest healthcare system in the country, so our critical needs are typically higher than private sector hospitals.

At the heart of our recruitment marketing efforts are our employees. VA doctors, nurses, pharmacists and support staff make it all work. It is our goal to share an inside view of what it’s like to work at VA, from the employees and staff who serve Veterans. We tell VA’s Story through our careers website, literature and advertisements. We started in Houston, TX, then went to Dallas. Then it was Las Vegas and Tucson, followed by Los Angeles and Florida. Onsite photo shoots allow us to collect images and stories from clinical staff and other employees who care for our nation’s Veterans. From Washington, DC to Tampa, FL to Anchorage, AK, our staff shares what a day at VA means to them. We are now on our way to the great state of Louisiana. New Orleans! There is a brand new facility opening after 10 long years recovering from Hurricane Katrina. And we are going to help tell their story.

New Orleans has agreed to host the photo production team from Dec 12-14 to scout for the pending TV shoot, and to obtain images that can be used to support ongoing digital and social media needs nationally. The TV commercial and PSA are an important part of our arsenal of resources to deliver our recruitment message; however, it does not meet all of our needs. TV allows us to target quality viewers that are likely to be healthcare providers, as does online digital. The PSA provides a large number of general viewers to increase brand awareness nationwide. Together, this allows VA to hire over 40,000 FTE annually, most of whom are in hard-to-recruit occupations.

Join us as we embark on the journey of capturing the spirit of New Orleans, via VA Careers. The words, stories and images will be used nationwide to share career advice and to demonstrate work-life at VA.

I trust you will join us… APPLY TODAY!

I am a Vietnam Veteran who has a service connected disability that still allows me to work and I have been in the safety arena for over 30 years. The company I worked for decided that it was time to eliminate my position and I would be interested in giving back to the VA for what they have given me over the years.

    Hello,
I am a retired doctor of chiropractic. I also while in the Navy, a Hospital Corpsman attached to the Marines. I live in Elma,WA which is 30 miles due west of Olympia, WA.

I would not mind a part time job. I have gone on such websites as this but became dismayed in the fact most jobs are located in other states.

What do you suggest in regard to my locating a job within reasonable travel distance of my location?

    Thank you.
