Veterans Health Administration (VHA) is made up of 21 regional districts. The entire health care system is made up of over 1,200 health care facilities, including 160 medical centers, that manage care for 8.3 million Veterans. Mid-Atlantic Health Care Network, aka. VISN 6, is composed of eight VA Medical Centers spanning North Carolina, Virginia and West Virginia.  Mid-Atlantic Health Care Network is responsible for treating 340,000 Veterans annually across the three states, and relies on 13,500 clinical and support staff members. There are also about 4,000 volunteers that donate their time to helping our Veterans.

This area is one of the fastest-growing Veteran-centric populations in the Nation, and Mid-Atlantic Health Care Network’s clinical quality performance measures have been rated some of the best. This honor pays tribute to the very hard-working staff who treat their patients with the utmost quality health care.

Mid-Atlantic Network is a great place to start your career with VHA, and luckily there are a number of hospitals to choose from. Durham VA Medical Center has been in operation since 1953, with the goal of improving the health of the men and women who have bravely served our country.

Durham Medical Center’s main facility also has three outpatient clinics that serve the surrounding communities located in Raleigh, Greenville and Morehead City, North Carolina

Life in North Carolina

North Carolina is a beautiful and rare part of the country where you can hike through the mountains or you can relax and enjoy the sunset on the beach. North Carolinians are also very proud of their Southern hospitality and their comfort foods. Residents of the “Tar Heel State” have shown themselves to be go-getters, with three U.S. Presidents having been born in the state. Many young people are flocking to North Carolina because of the big-city look with a small-town feel, not to mention the booming job market. Also, the people from North Carolina are as sweet as the tea they drink (from Mason jars of course).
