Today’s #VeteranOfTheDay is Robert Chapa.

Collage by Robert ChapaRobert was drafted in 1969 and served in the U.S. Marine Corps. After basic training at Marine Corps Recuit Depot in San Diego, Robert joined India Company of the 3rd Battalion, 5th Marines, 1st Marine Division and was sent to Vietnam.

Robert served for a year and left the Marine Corps as a Lance Corporal. His time in Vietnam inspired him to create this collage of his experience.

Robert shared his story of service with the Veterans History Project, which collects, preserves, and makes accessible the personal accounts of American war Veterans so that future generations may hear directly from them and better understand the realities of war.

Thank you for your service, Robert.
