Today’s #VeteranOfTheDay is Jim Sikich.

Jim was the first in DuPage County, Illinois to sign up for the draft in 1939, in preparation for the war.

He initially served in the Army before moving to the Air Corps.

Jim was the member of the Ragged Irregulars 91st Bombardment Group and served as a left gunner, completing 25 missions overseas.

He was finally discharged in 1945. When he returned home, he married his wife, Jean, and lived as a farmer.

On July 4, 2016, the United States of America will turn 240-years-old. On that same day, Jim will be 100.

Thank you for your service, Jim!
