Hundreds of women Veterans attend national awareness campaign event

The Bay Pines VA Healthcare System in St. Petersburg, Fla., held a special event to start the National Women Veterans Campaign, a series of events that will be held across the country this summer.

Women Veterans from across the region came to hear about the specialized services VA provides to women and met face-to-face with VA employees who could help them enroll in the services.

Hundreds of Veterans attended the event to learn more about VA services for women.

“I think a lot of our Veterans don’t know about the new VA, they think it’s our fathers or grandfathers VA,” said Dr. Betty Moseley Brown, associate director of the VA’s Center for Women Veterans, who pointed out the great services for women Veterans.

While many challenges still lie ahead, VA has undergone significant changes to meet the needs of female Veterans.

The Bay Pines VA Healthcare System is one of many VA hospitals that has created women’s health patient aligned teams at its clinical sites, including the community based outpatient clinics.

In addition to the full range of preventive care offered, specialty services including gynecology, breast care, mental health and maternity care coordination are available at the Bay Pines facility.
