VA patient advocate at West LA VA Medical Center named “Local Hero”

VA Patient Advocate Harry Corre at the West Los Angeles VA Medical Center is a Local Hero, according to KCET-Link and Union Bank.  Corre, a World War II ex-POW, was cited for the honor in conjunction with Jewish-American Heritage Month in May.  The Local Heroes videos honor people making a difference in their communities and neighborhoods.

Congrats to Mr. Corre. His service and dedication is appreciated. Veterans please note you are not alone in your struggle. If you do not get assistance when you are at any VA Medical Center, please stop by the Patient Advocate Office and if you are not assisted, the Office of the Director should be available to assist you. The employees of all VA Medical Centers are there to service you, the veteran!

Mr. Corre is someone I can always count on to get things done. Even though he is based more than 4 hours away from my clinic, I always get a return call and an explaination in dept on what’s going on. As a proud Veteran, and also a V.A. employee, I am VERY proud and humbled to have met and work with someone so deticated and inspiring. Congratulations Mr.Corre! And Thank you for your tireless service to our country and the V.A.!

Mr. Corre leaned to survive under difficult circumstances as a POW during WWll. This may be why Mr. Corre is productive within the context of the VA. Whereas information from few patient advocates can be relied on, Mr. Corre does try and is concerned about the Veteran and their family. Congratulations, Mr. Corre.

Like a previous poster, every time I have tried to contact the “Patient Advocate” they are usually out of the office and I am told they will get back to me as soon as possible. Months go by and no calls. So, what is “as soon as possible” to these people? And like the second poster said, they are always so rude to you when they finally do talk to you. They treat you like a child and they are your admonishing Mother, like you are nothing more than the “last four,” and so very disrespectful and demeaning that I wouldn’t talk to my worst enemy the way they do and get away with it. If you take it higher, to the administrator, you’re wasting you time there, too. Same attitude. The only thing you can do and hope and pray that they listen is the Office of the Inspector General. But, you tell them you’re story about long wait times for appointments, rude personnel, and everything like I said about the PA and then they decide if they think your problem is worthwhile to investigate. Why you anyone go all the way to the Inspector General if it wasn’t important enough to do so? I think 90 per cent of all managerial echelon at every VA facility to include the main office in Washington should be fired or demoted and get some fresh blood in there that know how to talk to and treat people.

Gina Farrisee, VA Asst. Sec. Human Resources stated to Rep. Michael Michaud(Maine) in regards to the “fully satisfactory rating” for 470 VA execs:

“That the senior most leaders in VA are held accountable for managing the process that benefits VA, not delivering an outcome beneficial to veterans.”

No matter what is stated by the VA, no matter what the many signs hanging on the walls say, no matter what the pamphlets and books given out say, the senior most leaders of the VA are not responsible for delivering an outcome beneficial to Veterans.

Doesn’t that give you a warm fuzzy feeling!!

I am curious about the status of the patient advocates. are they paid or volunteer ? they do seem to be a bit on the negative side in many instances.

    1. Dogs Life

They are paid employees of the VA. Therefor, a more appropriate title for them would be, “VA ADVOCATE.” It is unnecessary to further explain the obvious.
