Friday I attended a groundbreaking ceremony in Brevard County for Operation Home Front, a new 28-bed, women-only supportive housing facility for homeless female Veterans who have substance use and mental health disorders. One of the guest speakers at the event was Department of Veterans Affairs Assistant Secretary for Public and Intergovernmental Affairs Tammy Duckworth.
I was recently invited to attend the Orange County Census Rally to get the community excited about the upcoming Census 2010. I have to admit that going into it I did not realize just how important it is to take the time to answer those 10 little questions. Every 10 years, as mandated by the U.S. Constitution, our nation conducts a census — an effort to count every person living in the United States. The key to this endeavor is having every household fill out and mail back a completed census form. Participation is critical because the census determines the distribution of more than $400 billion annually of government funding for critical community services.
After a year of great Veterans events, I started thinking about the Veterans we serve and their families. I have met many of you at different venues and heard many stories. Many of our employees are also veterans. I thank all of you! I’d love to hear about your military time – when did you serve, in what branch, for how long and what were the highlights?

The holidays are here! On Christmas Eve, my girls sprinkle reindeer food in the backyard so that Santa and his sleigh know right where to land.
Monday we held a ribbon cutting ceremony for our newest Community Based Outpatient Clinic in Clermont. This is yet another step in our expansion of services in an effort to bring VA healthcare closer to our Veterans.
