Last week saw the conclusion of VA’s most recent Veteran Hiring Fair in Detroit, where 240 employers from across the government and private sector brought over 25,000 nationwide jobs for Veterans to snag. Over 8,000 Veterans attended the hiring fair, with 5,500 interviews conducted.

As of Tuesday, 1,300 job offers were made to Vets. That’s a rate of 23.6 percent, and that number will only climb in the coming days and weeks. To put that in perspective, almost 17 percent of Vets in a similar event were offered jobs earlier this year. About three percent is normal across the industry.

One-on-one resume workshops were buzzing from morning to evening each day to help prepare Veterans for their interviews. About 5,400 attendees got hooked up with VA for Vets, which will make them eligible to receive continued coaching, training, and electronic information about career opportunities even if they didn’t receive a job offer.

If you weren’t able to attend this hiring fair in Detroit, not to worry: The U.S. Chamber of Commerce will be holding Hiring our Heroes fairs across the country. The next event like the Hiring Fair and Open House in Detroit will be held in Colorado Springs on July 12. Check out the Chamber of Commerce’s schedule of dozens of hiring fairs happening over the next few months. We’ll be sure to let you know about them as they come.
