At the preview screening Tuesday, Veterans, families and friends signed a large-scale movable map of the war theater in honor or memory of military service. In support of the new landmark series, Louisiana Public Broadcasting also launched a new initiative called The Vietnam War – Louisiana Remembers  by recording oral histories from Vietnam Veterans and others affected by the war during the event.

Louisiana Public Broadcasting has also invited Veterans to share their story by visiting their studios in Baton Rouge to record their Vietnam experience. Louisiana Veterans can schedule a Wednesday recording by calling the studio between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., at 225-767-4204. Vietnam Veterans can also share their history on Louisiana Public Broadcasting ‘s website at lpb.org/Vietnam by uploading their own videos, photographs or written stories

I took AIT at FT Polk in 1967 NORTH FORT, TIGERLAND- and was in G-3 testing “Special troops” SOUTH FORT, in 1969 after my time in Nam. does that make me a Louisiana vet?

I hosted the screening on Tuesday night and on behalf of LPB, many thanks to the Alexandria V.A. Health Care System for their hospitality and generous staff support for our screening event. Additional thanks to the 13 veterans who shared their stories with us on video. Please tune into the VIETNAM WAR premier on LPB this Sunday, September 17 at 7 p.m. followed by “Louisiana Remembers: The Vietnam War” an LPB documentary about Louisiana’s contributions and connections to the conflict. If you’re a Louisiana Vietnam veteran who wants to share their story but can’t make it to Baton Rouge, visit http://www.lpb.org/vietnam to submit it online. Thanks again for your sacrifice and service.

Thanks for the Documentary. I hope you do not forget that Black American Men also was in this war. I am from Crowley and I know in my small town we loss black men. I am now a Veteran with 26 years in the Army. My field was Motor Transportation and if you look into the truck units in Vietnam you will find that many were Black. Keep us Black Veterans in the loop also.
