VA Secretary Dr. David Shulkin has directed VA staff to break down barriers and eliminate any red tape to ensure that Veterans evacuating due to Hurricane Irma receive seamless care at any VA health care facility throughout the nation, especially the Southeast.

VA facilities have been directed to engage their Traveling Veterans Coordinator to ensure that systems are in place so that all Veterans impacted by evacuations associated with Hurricanes Harvey and Irma are able to obtain care at any VA facility where they may seek it. Veterans will be offered mental health, homeless services, and health care through our medical centers, clinics, and mobile medical units as needed.

If you are a Veteran from a storm-affected areas and require immediate assistance, contact the Health Resource Center Disaster Hotline at 1-800-507-4571.

    I still lost here, VA has always provided, veterans-registered in the healthcare system with services regardless of home state. You receive services at any VA facility regardless of where you are from,

    I have lived in Las Vegas for 10 years and the regional VAMC still can’t electronically view my 20 years of previous records from the Dallas, TX VAMC.

    I am an Army veteran myself who is actually still on the road as my family and I had to evacuate homestead, Florida. Just reading this put tears to my eyes to know that the VA is offering these services and providing a sense of calm to my fellow veterans. I cannot agree more with my sister above. As military members, we can do without the material, it is the health and welfare of ourselves as well as our families that is uppermost. I want to say Thank you from the bottom of my heart. I am not sure what I will encounter upon my return back home to homestead after hurricane Irma hits but at least I know there are options. For now, God Bless is all!

    Thank you Secretary Schulkin for your leadership and for the sincere concern you show to us Vets. I just purchased a home in FL 3 weeks ago–thankful to the VA for my loan; had to put my service dog of 13 years down a week ago and now have evacuated Florida to Georgia due to Irma. Opening up VA facilities to us in time of need is critical and gives me a sense of comfort just knowing you’re trying to cut through red tape to make the right things happen. We Veterans survive anything — we’re used to living out of suitcases so if I lose everything of personal matters it’s ok –my health and safety come first! Praying for all my fellow citizens and especially my fellow Vets who remained in FL!
