It’s been a long time coming, but the 2017 National Women Veterans Summit is set and will take place at the Hyatt Regency Downtown in Houston, Texas, Aug. 25-26, with an opening reception Aug. 24.
Much has changed since VA held its last national-level event for women Veterans in 2011, so there will be a tremendous amount of new and useful information available – as well as a host of resources and activities onsite.

Through the summit, we are bringing together key stakeholders from across a variety of sectors to help women Veterans through forward-thinking dialogue and innovative collaboration among private industry, nonprofit organizations, the federal government, innovators, researchers, caregivers and Veterans.
The summit will focus on the issues important to women Veterans as well as provide training and guidance to assist women and their supporters in navigating VA resources, as well as state, local, and partner resources. Attendees will have opportunity to hear from the senior VA leaders, participate in breakout sessions focused on employment, mental health, entrepreneurship, military sexual trauma, reproductive health, culture change and more.
Retired Lt. Gen. Patricia Horoho – first woman and first nurse to serve as the Army’s surgeon general – will be one of our keynote speakers. The event will also feature a screening of the documentary Journey to Normal, women Veteran ASAP Comedy Bootcamp alums and a display of works by women Veteran artists.
The target audience for the summit includes women Veterans; public sector partners including military, federal, state and local agencies; Veterans service organizations and other nonprofit partners; academics and others in the research community; representatives from the tech industry and corporations; other community partners; and VA employees, including women Veteran program managers and women Veteran coordinators. A Mobile Vet Center will be also on site, as well as Veterans Benefits Administration personnel to provide claims assistance (by appointment only).
The cummit is being hosted by VA’s Center for Women Veterans with the support of partners including the Veterans Experience Office, Disabled American Veterans, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Paralyzed Veterans of America, Vietnam Veterans of America, The American Legion, Military Officers Association of America, AMVETS, Blinded Veterans Association, Military Order of the Purple Heart, Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America, Optum, General Electric, USAA, and the Veterans Canteen Service.

I hope that during the summit that the touch basis with service connected disability claims for women issues. The VSOs are usually males are unfamiliar with female related conditions and to no fault of their own; because I know a lot are volunteers. However female conditions are not well represented on claim applications, which is very important.
Would really love to attend this Women’s Summit conference in Houston, but unfortunately no money. If anyone knows of any sources that might sponsor any of us women vets who would like to attend, please let us know. For those women vets who are able to attend, hurrah for you. what is a summit anyway. what sould I expect as a take-away from a women’s summit?
Used to work near the Houston VA hospital. While eating lunch often saw women VA staff eating out. Saw many with Vietnam ribbons. Always considered it an honor to be in their presence.
No longer work in the area and am also retired. Glad to see these ladies receiving recognition along side our other veterans. Thanks to all the ladies and to all our veterans for their service to us and our country.
We are LOUISIANA WOMEN VETERANS! We do Honorguard service at any woman veterans funeral in the State of Louisiana! We would like to know if we. Old set up a display so we can encourage others to serve in this special way when our sisters pass on?

Why are you using Eastern Time when Houston is in the Central Time Zone? Does that mean that for us Texans it will start at 0700 CDT?
