Today’s #VeteranOfTheDay is Marine Corps Veteran Matthew Norris.

After the death of his good friend, Lance Cpl. Andrew Quasnitschka, Matthew was inspired to also serve in the Marine Corps. He served as an infantry squad leader from 2009-2013. During that time he was deployed to Sangin Valley, Afghanistan. He also spent time in Okinawa, Japan, for jungle and cold weather training.

For his service, Matthew was presented with various awards including, Global War on Terrorism Medal, Afghanistan Campaign and Good Conduct Medal.

Matthew is currently a student at the University of Southern Maine and a reservist in Alpha Company 1st Battalion, 25th Marines. In his free time, he volunteers at the Maine Veterans Home in Scarborough, where he enjoys playing bingo and solving puzzles with fellow Veterans.

Thank you for your service, Matthew!
