Hundreds of Veterans from across the country will converge in Biloxi, Mississippi, May 7-11, for the 31st National Veterans Golden Age Games (NVGAG). Veterans ranging in ages 55 to 90 plus will participate in the weeklong competitions.

Husband and wife duo, George and Roberta Hults, say they are excited to share their common bond as Veterans with everyone participating. Roberta is a U.S. Air Force Veteran and George served in the U.S. Army.

“I’m looking forward to meeting other Veterans,” said Roberta, age 74. “You don’t meet very many women Veterans, and I’m looking forward to it.”

“I’m glad this is done for Veterans,” said George, age 86. “The military was a big part of my life, it is something you can never forget.”

Residents of nearby Ocean Springs, Mississippi, the duo are registered to play boccia singles and doubles. Roberta also adds bowling and table tennis to her list of competitions, and George plans to participate in badminton and table tennis.

“I’m anxious to see how the others players from all over play.” said Roberta. “I think [these events] encourage Veterans to take care of themselves, and live healthier lives, too.”

“I remember the camaraderie,” said George. “I’m looking forward to that.”

The couple has been married for 25 years, and although they’re preparing for the competition, they most look forward to having fun, together, with other Veterans.

Registration for the National Veterans Golden Age Games has ended, but volunteers are needed to help make the events successful.
