When job seekers decide to serve at VA, they become part of the mission to care for those “who shall have borne the battle.” The mission is supported by our ICARE values – Integrity, Commitment, Advocacy, Respect, Excellence.

If you’re a Veteran and choose a career with VA, you’ll have:

  • An environment with an unwavering commitment to supporting Veterans
  • Statutory hiring preference – particularly for Veterans who are disabled
  • A place to grow your career and serve your country, even after your military active duty
  • Co-workers who value military career experiences

We have an unwavering commitment to support our Veterans. And a big part of our mission is offering Veterans statutory hiring preference – particularly for Veterans who are disabled. VA is a place to grow your career, while sharing your life experiences in an environment that can help others heal and cope with being home.

I applied for VA jobs for 12 twelve years and only had 3 interviews during that time. I wasn’t hired despite being a disabled vet. I gave up applying because I decided VA would rather hire civilians who know nothing of what being a vet is about. I think about trying again for VA employment but don’t feel I’ll get hired.
