There was a full house at the Albuquerque Vet Center on Sept. 28, during the New Mexico Vet Centers Open House that also included participation from representatives of the Santa Fe and Las Cruces Vet Centers. Visitors enjoyed a walking tour of the facility, an overview presentation and a tour of a Mobile Vet Center. Joining Vet Center staff members were representatives of the Albuquerque VA Regional Office who discussed VA benefits programs and services.
“Vet Center staff are the people in VA who welcome home war Veterans with honor by providing quality readjustment counseling in a caring manner,” said team leader Sabine LeBow of the Santa Fe Vet Center. “We understand and appreciate Veterans’ war experiences and do all we can to assist them and their family members.”
Nationwide, VA’s Vet Centers provide a broad range of counseling, outreach and referral services to combat Veterans and their families. They guide Veterans and their families through many of the major adjustments in lifestyle that often occur after a Servicemember returns from combat. Programs for a Veteran may include individual and group counseling in areas such as Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), alcohol and drug assessment and suicide prevention referrals. All services are free and are strictly confidential.
