With women Veterans younger than 35 years old increasing by 120% during the past decade, VA is adjusting to a changing demographic landscape. These changes in our Nation’s military meant VHA had to address the needs of an entirely new population of Veterans. The Women’s Health Center of VA was developed to meet specialized needs of women. It provides programmatic and strategic support to implement positive changes in provision of care for all women Veterans. And our efforts go beyond medicine to encompass special programs to provide services for women Veterans interested in education and training, employment assistance and vocational rehabilitation.

Nurse Riah, a women’s health nurse at VA says, “I love working at Women’s Health Center because it is a specialized program meeting the specialized needs of women.” We address their health care needs and work to ensure that timely, equitable, high-quality care is provided in a sensitive, and safe environment at VA health facilities throughout the Nation. Women receiving primary care from a designated women’s health provider at VA are looked after in a truly comprehensive way. All areas of a patient’s well-being are assessed and taken into consideration to formulate the best treatment.

In Nurse Riah’s words, “A good part of the population of our Veterans and active duty service members, including my sister, has come back home. And we need personnel to be able to help with their special needs.” We strive to be a national leader in the provision of health care for women.

    Hello,

I am a veteran who is in the process of setting up a non-profit organization to provide some of the outreach services I just learned that you have launched. How can I get more information on getting involved in this new initiative?

    Thank you,

    Gail Hooks
